Easter Seals Month

This semester, we have a six week placement at any place of our choice. I decided to do my placement at Easter Seals Ontario. Easter Seals is a non- profit charity that provides programs and services to children and youth with physical disabilities across Ontario to help them achieve greater independence, accessibility and integration. March is Easter Seals month, where everyone should give a little donation to help these children and youth. I am really excited to get started on this six week placement. This is an awesome opportunity for us students to get the experience and knowledge we need just before heading out in the real world. Who know, students may even get a job opportunity out of this placement. I am mostly happy about working with Easter Seals because it is an awesome organization with an awesome purpose. I will be doing what I love for great cause that defiantly makes a difference. That is what i think its about bringing your skills and passion and make a difference. On April 1st Easter Seals is having their annual telethon. The annual Easter Seals Telethon celebrates success stories, introduces new Provincial Easter Seals Ambassadors, showcases Easter Seals kids and their families, and recognizes those donors and sponsors who have helped them. This is the biggest event for easter seals , and i am really happy that i am taking part of it. This will let me learn all about hosting an event and the challenges it brings.

The Question

I have currently been at St Lawrence college for three years. This semester i am finally graduating my three year program. I am ecstatic that all my hard work and time is being appreciated and i am done with this program. Now the question that makes me cringe, nervous , sad , happy all in one is the question "what are you going to do after school? " Its scary because some students have a plan, but me i have no idea! Almost everyday someone asks me that question and i want to fight them secretly. Not seriously, but sometimes i feel pressured that because i am done school that means i need to start my life. Its true but i do not want to rush on what direction i go. I do know that there is nothing wrong with trying. My first idea is i want to volunteer at a bunch of organizations, preferably non-profit and gain experience in events as well as getting a grip with different organizations. Maybe in a year i will do a post graduate program for sport marketing and events at George Brown. The options are endless, and i am just so excited to get out there in this crazy innovating world.

Pinterest for Marketing?

Pinterest is the latest trend in social media right now. Mashable stated that Pinterest has nearly 5 million users and is rapidly growing. Nearly 1.5 million unique visits daily, spending an average of 15 minutes a day on the site. Here is an overview of what Pinterest is. It is basically a virtual pin board, that allows everyone to share beautiful pictures and neat things that you find on the web. Every user has pin boards and can name them whatever they want. For example it could be a pin board of food and beverage, then a pin board for events, another pin board for QR codes. Now the question I asked myself right away was how can I use this for marketing and will this create awareness. As well as would using pinterest make good conversations? and can you show off your product? You can use pinterest to post pictures of your company and products and if they are good enough they will get re-pinned by your followers and your followers followers. Companies can use pinterest to post events, coupons and QR codes.  You can allow your customers to join in on a certain board and pin ideas and suggestions about how to use your product, or themes that go along with your products and services. There are many creative ways you could use pinterest to create awareness. The best thing about pinterest is it is picture based, so it is mostly positive and exciting. I think of it like Facebook but without people whining and bitching, which I think is a lot better. Pinterest I think will become big, and will allow marketers to use pinterest boards to tell stories. Turn boring written case studies into powerful visual stories.
