A Thin Line Campaign

MTV is apart of  A Thin Line Campaign which fights digital abuse, bullying and discrimination. They teamed up with Rovio which is a game maker that makes the game angry birds that is a really popular game for the target market. They created a joint promotion where Angry Birds Space players will unlock a secret Golden Egg level when they support and post a positive action on  the Thin Line Campaign app . MTV will also show a PSA for the campaign during the launch. Rovio will also be promoting the campaign through banner and video placements in Angry Birds mobile game. The reason why I thought this was so fascinating is because this is a perfect example of joint promotions. For my client campaign that our group had to do, they had a couple joint promotions as well. I think that this angry birds one is awesome and will create awareness. The key aspect of new campaigns is creating awareness and getting the target market aware. So by them finding out by playing there family game , they will go further to see what a Thin Line is all about and then the goal is it will spiral. Reading about this campaign really got me thinking on how everything I learned in college played out in this marketing campaign.

please play again

It's that time of the year again , where every canadian itches to buy a coffee so they can have the chance to win some prizes. Thats right, its Roll Up The Rim To Win at Tim Hortons. This is Tim Hortons 25th successful year of running the roll up the rim campaign. I feel after grasping everything i learned in these 3 years of advertising, the roll up the rim campaign is the definition of a successful marketing campaign. The primary focus for this campaign is rewarding guests for their loyalty. Guests have embraced the contest and continues to embrace it every year. This years contest features 16 million more prizes that last year, boosting the odds of winning 1 in 6 from 1 in 9. I think this campaign is genius, and will continue being successful for many years to come. The reason why i think this is because while you buy a coffee its kind of like buying a scratch ticket, but you don't have to be of age and half the price. There is always a chance of winning. Especially when it's 1 in 6 , you think you might just win something. Even if its a coffee or donut it is crazy how people get excited over it.  I can't lie I get excited over it too and post it on my twitter or facebook like everyone else. The crazy thing is I always get a "please play again", every single time. I get a little mad , call it a phony then maybe an hour later go get another coffee and try again. No matter what Tim Hortons still gets lots of customers, and because of roll up the rim gets more loyal customers every year.

Easter Seals Month

This semester, we have a six week placement at any place of our choice. I decided to do my placement at Easter Seals Ontario. Easter Seals is a non- profit charity that provides programs and services to children and youth with physical disabilities across Ontario to help them achieve greater independence, accessibility and integration. March is Easter Seals month, where everyone should give a little donation to help these children and youth. I am really excited to get started on this six week placement. This is an awesome opportunity for us students to get the experience and knowledge we need just before heading out in the real world. Who know, students may even get a job opportunity out of this placement. I am mostly happy about working with Easter Seals because it is an awesome organization with an awesome purpose. I will be doing what I love for great cause that defiantly makes a difference. That is what i think its about bringing your skills and passion and make a difference. On April 1st Easter Seals is having their annual telethon. The annual Easter Seals Telethon celebrates success stories, introduces new Provincial Easter Seals Ambassadors, showcases Easter Seals kids and their families, and recognizes those donors and sponsors who have helped them. This is the biggest event for easter seals , and i am really happy that i am taking part of it. This will let me learn all about hosting an event and the challenges it brings.

The Question

I have currently been at St Lawrence college for three years. This semester i am finally graduating my three year program. I am ecstatic that all my hard work and time is being appreciated and i am done with this program. Now the question that makes me cringe, nervous , sad , happy all in one is the question "what are you going to do after school? " Its scary because some students have a plan, but me i have no idea! Almost everyday someone asks me that question and i want to fight them secretly. Not seriously, but sometimes i feel pressured that because i am done school that means i need to start my life. Its true but i do not want to rush on what direction i go. I do know that there is nothing wrong with trying. My first idea is i want to volunteer at a bunch of organizations, preferably non-profit and gain experience in events as well as getting a grip with different organizations. Maybe in a year i will do a post graduate program for sport marketing and events at George Brown. The options are endless, and i am just so excited to get out there in this crazy innovating world.

Pinterest for Marketing?

Pinterest is the latest trend in social media right now. Mashable stated that Pinterest has nearly 5 million users and is rapidly growing. Nearly 1.5 million unique visits daily, spending an average of 15 minutes a day on the site. Here is an overview of what Pinterest is. It is basically a virtual pin board, that allows everyone to share beautiful pictures and neat things that you find on the web. Every user has pin boards and can name them whatever they want. For example it could be a pin board of food and beverage, then a pin board for events, another pin board for QR codes. Now the question I asked myself right away was how can I use this for marketing and will this create awareness. As well as would using pinterest make good conversations? and can you show off your product? You can use pinterest to post pictures of your company and products and if they are good enough they will get re-pinned by your followers and your followers followers. Companies can use pinterest to post events, coupons and QR codes.  You can allow your customers to join in on a certain board and pin ideas and suggestions about how to use your product, or themes that go along with your products and services. There are many creative ways you could use pinterest to create awareness. The best thing about pinterest is it is picture based, so it is mostly positive and exciting. I think of it like Facebook but without people whining and bitching, which I think is a lot better. Pinterest I think will become big, and will allow marketers to use pinterest boards to tell stories. Turn boring written case studies into powerful visual stories.

Facebook drama

On Tuesday January 24th Facebook announced the timeline would soon be activated for all users. Some Facebook users have had the timeline since they were given access to it in September 2011.  Opinions surrounding Facebook’s new layout are mixed. When Facebook changes their template it’s a social media drama. Almost everytime half of your news feed is about people complaining on the layout. I feel, we need to calm down and just go with the flow. Facebook is free, everyone uses it and things change. It amuses me when I am reading about everyone bitching about how they don’t know how to use it, even though they figured out how to update their status, i think you understand it , its not rocket science, its Facebook.  Facebook is one of those things that can always change but their not losing their audience. The funny thing is when you see someone complaining about Facebook but they’re ON Facebook. So it doesn’t seem like its bothering them too much. The easiest thing to do would be to make the layout optional, but then again not everything in life is optional. So people its only Facebook, its not like it doesn’t exist anymore because we know if that happens it would be a world crisis.

A blog about blogging

This is my first official blog, and I am not sure what to blog about. So I decided to blog about blogging. When my teacher told our class that we needed to blog every week I got excited. To tell you the truth I have no idea how to blog or the right way to blog. I do know that there are very successful blogs out there, and that most marketers are blogging. So for this blog i did some research on how to blog successfully. Websters dictionary defines blogging as A blog as a personal journal published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the most recent post appears first. The way It says personal journal made me really think. It made me realize people can blog for a whole lot of reasons. That is what I am excited about. For blogging there is no limitations. You can blog about whatever your mind wishes and hopefully influence your peers or employees. Your personality can come out in your blog, which is a great way for people to get to know you that have not met you before. I need to conquer my fear of blogging and just keep writing but of course not bore people, because we all know, no one will continue reading. Searching blogs on the internet is overwhelming there are so many sources on top ten tips, or top ten rules on blogging. This made me very overwhelmed but confident in the blogging world. I am pretty satisfied with blogging right now and I have established five SIMPLE rules for myself.

Rule 1- open blog
Rule 2- write title
Rule 3- write blog
Rule 4- read over blog
Rule 5- Post

I am confident that my next blogs will be powerful and fun, because I believe in simplicity and I have no doubt I will be able to succeed.
